HPE Aruba Central - AOS 10 Gateway Onboarding and Configuration - Part 2
In this post, I will cover the initial group configuration that will be pushed to the gateway. If you haven’t gone through Part 1 of this series, check it out first.
The first step is to create a new group. Navigate to Global > Organization > Network Structure > Groups
Click the + sign to add a New Group for the gateways:
Enter a name for the Group and select Gateways:
Note: It is currently recommended that different groups be used for APs and Gateways. This will simplify your configuration process and workflow.
Note: Do Not select “configure using templates”. Template configuration is not supported with AOS 10.
The next screen will prompt you to select which Device Personas will be supported for this group.
For Architecture, select AOS 10.
For Network Role, select Mobility.
Click Add:
Validate that the new group is now listed in your Central Group Name List:
The next step is to walk through the Guided Setup for Mobility Gateways on the new group.
Select the newly created group from the global menu:
Click Devices, then select the Config icon:
When you choose Config on a new Gateway UI Group, Central will present a wizard that will walk you through the basic configuration options for the group:
Under System, define the model of the gateway and select the Auto-Cluster mode:
Note: Each group will contain gateways using the same model.
In my lab, I’m installing a pair of 9012s. I will use Site-Based auto-clustering, which I will cover in a future post.
Select Next
Under Time, set up an NTP server and configure the Timezone:
Note: Gateways and APs will try to reach a public NTP server. If you use a local NTP server, then add it here.
Select Next
Under DNS, you can leave this blank if you configured a DNS server in the initial setup wizard:
Select Next
Under Local Management User, I configure a local super user account as a fallback if AAA is unavailable. I will configure AAA in a later post.
Click + to add a user:
Click Save
Select Next
Select Continue, which will take you to the LAN options
In my lab I will add two VLANs to the group for future use:
VLAN180
VLAN181
Select Next
Under LAN Ports, I will not add any configuration here as the interface was configured during the setup wizard and will be imported when the gateway checks into Central the first time.
LAN Summary:
Click Finish - Continue
That completes the Group Level configuration for the gateway. In the next post, I will add the gateway to the group and walk through the final stage of onboarding.
